Club discussion with the topic The Peking four-master

With great pleasure we invite you and your guests
on Wednesday, 4 October 2017 at 7 p.m. to a
Club discussion with the topic
“The PEKING – Hamburg’s legendary four-master”

A steely legend has returned: After more than eight decades, the four-masted barque “Peking” has returned from New York. Piggybacked on a self-propelled dock ship, the no longer seaworthy windjammer crossed the Atlantic to be restored at the Peters shipyard in Wewelsfleth, Schleswig-Holstein. Probably in the year 2020, the “Beijing” will then moor in its former home port of Hamburg as a walk-in but no longer navigable museum ship.

Of the 83 Flying P-Liners built, only four still exist worldwide, the “Pommern” in Mariehamn, Finland, the “Passat” in Travemünde and the former “Padua”, which still serves as the “Kruzenshtern” as a sailing training ship for the Russian Navy.

After introductory words by our advisory board member Nikolaus H. Schües, shipowner F. Laeisz and member of the board of trustees Stiftung Hamburg Maritim, we are pleased to welcome our guest speakers:
Joachim Kaiser – Chairman of the Hamburg Maritim Foundation, will talk about the history and transfer of PEKING, followed by
Börries von Notz – Sole director of the Stiftung Historische Museen Hamburg report on the embedding of PEKING in the planned German Harbour Museum.

The price of € 39 includes delicacies from the kitchen and selected drinks.

Cancellations addressed in writing to the administration by Friday, 29 September 2017, are free of charge. In case of short notice cancellations and non-appearance we charge 100% of the participation fee.
